On April 21, 1947, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, the Home Member of Parliament, inaugurated the All India Services.

He called Civil Servants, the ‘Steel Frame of India’. This meant that civil servants, employed at various levels of the government, act as supporting pillars of the country’s administrative system

India's first National Civil Service Day was observed on April 21, 2006, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi and since then it's been an annual affair.

Charles Cornwallis was know as "The Father of Civil Service in India"

Cornwallis introduced two divisions of the Indian Civil Service, namely, covenanted and uncovenanted

The day is dedicated to commemorating all those involved and working at different levels and departments in civil services and also serves as a chance for all the civil service officers to rededicate themselves for the service and betterment of the nation

There is something unique in this soil, which despite many obstacles has always remained the abode of great soul
